Health Equity CoP: The Ripple Effect of a Large Factory in MI on Community Health
NACHC’s Health Equity Community of Practice (CoP) was supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as part of a grant to understand the role of community health centers in addressing health equity within the context of structural racism and discrimination. The Health Equity CoP focused on:
- Understanding health disparities that occur in our communities as a result of structures and systems in place
- Learning about current experiences to align and advance our collective thinking around what health centers and partners can do in this space
- Identifying barriers, gaps, or challenges that health centers and partners have to rectify and address structural racism and discrimination

Learning Objectives:
- Recognize how layoffs, unemployment, and job insecurity have a negative effect on health.
- Explain how public policies that provide a social safety net can buffer unemployed workers and their families from economic disruptions and uncertainties that affect health.
- Have examples of societies that take a “we’re all in this together” approach to policy and have better health outcomes than those that leave individuals and communities to fend for themselves.
